" (It is he) Who has created seven Heavens"

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Some details about the layers of heavens:
The First layer:

In His Glorious Quran Allah, Glorified and Exalted, says,
“Blessed is He, in Whose Hand is the Dominion, and Who is Able to do all things. (It is He) Who has created death and life so that He may test you: which of you is best in deed; and He is the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving. (It is He) Who has created seven heavens one upon another: you can see no fault in the creation of the Most Gracious; then look again: can you see any rifts?; then look again and yet again: your sight will return to you dazzled and weary.”
[Al-Mulk; 1-4]

We are going to talk about these words:
“(It is He) Who has created seven heavens one upon another”. Astronomers say: “The first layer of heaven is the lowest layer of the atmosphere where living things, such as birds, animals and other creatures, exist. This first layer is also made up of several layers; and it is constantly changing from one condition to another, and from one place to another, in hot and cold weather, and when it is cloudy, rainy, stormy, …etc. Low and high pressures move from one place to another; and their movement is the basis on which meteorology is based.” This first layer is not more than 16 km’s high.
The second layer including Ozone:

The second layer is made up of molecules of sulfuric gases that are responsible for the process of rain. In fact, without such molecules not only rain but also life would be impossible on earth. In this second layer there is the Ozone layer, which consists of a gas, O3, which absorbs deadly ultra-violet rays coming from the Sun and allows only very little amounts of such rays, just enough ultra-violet rays to kill germs that are detrimental to living things. That is why moderate exposure to sunlight is very useful and detergent. But the Ozone layer has been badly influenced by the numerous spacecraft and satellites launched into space; and skin cancer has spread dangerously in some developed countries, particularly those which have been sending spacecraft and satellites, which has caused a lot of damage to the Ozone Layer.
3. The burning layer:

The third layer, which resembles a blazing atomic furnace, is necessary for destruction of cosmic rocks and other heavenly objects as soon as they enter the Earth’s atmosphere. Without such layer, which burns all heavenly objects falling onto the Earth, the Earth would have been completely destroyed. Thanks to this layer all heavenly objects entering the Earth’s atmosphere are burnt and turned into ashes that can be seen only under a microscope.
4. The fourth layer:

The fourth layer of the atmosphere is the ionosphere, which is 80 km’s above the surface of the Earth. This ionized layer receive the Sun’s rays, particularly ultra-violet rays, which ionize atoms of oxygen and nitrogen in the air. The ionized atoms of oxygen and nitrogen reflect radio waves back to the Earth and prevent them from escaping to outer space.
5. The layer of empty space:

The fifth layer of the atmosphere extends from 1,000 to 65,000 km’s above the Earth. In this layer the air decreases gradually until it becomes empty space. Therefore, thickness of the Earth’s atmosphere is more than 65,000 km’s. But the miraculous thing in this regard is Allah’s Words,
“And We have made the heaven as a roof well-protected; yet they (disbelievers) turn away from its Signs.”
[Al-Anbiyaa; 32]

i.e. the roof, the atmosphere, has been set up by Allah, the Almighty, the Most Gracious, to protect the Earth from cosmic rays and heavenly objects. In this context, astronomers say: “The Earth’s atmosphere is a real shield. It is of low density, yet it is very thick. It stops cosmic rays, burns meteors and protects our world, as it allows only beneficial things to reach the Earth.” This opinion on the part of astronomers falls in full agreement with Allah’s Words, “And We have made the heaven as a roof well-protected; yet they (disbelievers) turn away from its Signs.”
What Scientists said about the well-protected roof?

The Earth’s atmosphere does not allow comets, meteors, metals, rocks, heavenly objects, or dangerous cosmic rays to reach the Earth. It either burns such things or prevents them from reaching the Earth. The Ozone, for example, absorbs deadly rays and prevents them from reaching the Earth; and the fourth layer of the atmosphere is hot enough to melt everything that visits the Earth from outer space.
Once, when we were flying to Mecca to perform the Hajj, it was announced that the temperature outside the plane, up in the sky, was minus fifty degrees Celsius, while it was in the Sacred Land plus 55 degrees Celsius in the shade. The temperature of this fifth layer, which burns everything, is more than 1000 degrees Celsius, which is enough heat to melt iron and turn it into ashes.
When Allah, All-Mighty, says,
“(It is He) Who created seven heavens: one upon another; you can see no fault in the creation of the Most Gracious; then look again: can you see any rifts?!”
[Al-Mulk; 3]

Such is a miraculous Divine Sign, known only to knowledgeable people,
“It is only those who have knowledge among His (Allah’s) slaves that fear Allah.” [Fatir; 28]
In fact, each and every word in the Holy Quran refers to sciences and details, the proper study of which, or even one tenth thereof, need more than a whole average human life-p. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of Creations
