The Solar Year and Lunar Year

Introduction:

Solar year and Lunar year:
As confirmed by modern astronomy the Solar year is exactly 365.422 days. During this period of time, the Earth completes its course round the Sun and the four seasons, summer, autumn (Fall), winter and spring take place. The lunar year is exactly 354.36780 days. This period of time is based on the length of time between two consecutive eclipses of the Sun divided by the number of rounds that the Moon travels round the Earth. As shown by most up-to-date calculations carried out in the giant modern observatories, the difference between the Solar and the Lunar years is exactly 10.875137 days. In other words, every 33 years, between both years there is a difference of 358 days, i.e. about one year. This means that every 100 Solar years make 103 Lunar years, and hence, 300 Solar years make 309 Lunar years. This accurate calculation, which astronomers have carried out and which has become a definitive undisputable cosmic fact confirmed by modern astronomy, is mentioned in the Holy Quran more than 14 centuries ago. This gives more evidence of the scientific miraculous nature of Allah’s Book, the Holy Quran, in which Allah, All-Mighty, tells the story of the people of the Cave, saying,
“And they stayed in their Cave three hundred years, adding nine”
Clearly enough the words “three hundred years”
in the above Verse refer to Solar years, while the words “adding nine”
refer to Lunar years. This is very accurate, for after having carried out such highly precise calculations in gigantic observatories, astronomers found out, quite recently, that 300 Solar years equal 309 Lunar years. In interpretation of the above Quranic Verse, Ibn Katheer says: by the words “And they stayed in their Cave three hundred years” Allah means to inform His Messenger, Muhammad, (PBUH), about the period of time that the people of the Cave spent in their Cave from the time Allah made them to sleep until He caused them to wake up and to be discovered by other people after 300 Solar years but 309 years according to the Lunar Calendar. That is why after Allah, All-Mighty, says “And they stayed in their Cave three hundred years”, He, Glory to Him, goes on to say “adding nine”. In Al-Jalalain book of Quranic interpretation we read: “adding nine”, i.e. nine years, for 300 Solar years make 309 Lunar years. To wrap up, Allah, Most Gracious, speaks the truth as He says,
“Verily! In that (Quran) there is indeed a reminder for him who has a heart or gives ear while he is heedful.” [L; 37]
